CONCEPTUAL DESIGN STUDIO
Unbroken Journey
Project No. 2: Entry-Path-Goal

Challenge:
In this exercise, you will create conceptual spaces by exploring the primary elements of architecture: line, plane, and volume. Get creative by developing a theme that guides and inspires your design process.
Scale: ¼” = 1’-0”
The Concept:

My inspiration comes from a painting by Colombian artist Omar Rayo. In this artwork, Rayo explores and optically deconstructs a square. The resulting geometric labyrinth prompts a personal reflection on my career as an artist. As the project aims to establish the Entry-Path-Goal sequence, I examined my own career path, which at times resembles a labyrinth. I reflected on the various aspects of my identity, being a woman, a

designer, an architect, a storyteller, and a mother, and how these elements intertwine in my artistic expression and personal growth. This journey is not straightforward; it requires a continual shift in perspective to adapt and cultivate my artistic practice.
The Process:
After exploring Rayo’s geometrical abstraction of a square, where the artist creates an optical illusion that adds a sense of motion and three-dimensional depth to the square,

I decided to build upon the intertwined squares by taking them out of the two-dimensional space of the painting to construct my own labyrinth using his lines and planes.

In my career, finding the ideal solution is paramount, as each design problem presents its unique challenges. In geometry, a cube embodies that perfection.
As I began to move the squares throughout the space, it became evident that moving towards that perfect cube would be the final step of this Entry-Path-Goal sequence.

The Result:

The primal square serves as my inner portal, while the subsequent squares cascade in sequence, representing a path that initially appears broken.

This fractured course evokes a sense of uncertainty, but further exploration reveals a continuity that leads toward the final destination:

a perfect cube, which symbolizes the three-dimensional evolution of the square.
This process embodies both the struggle and satisfaction inherent in my artistic practice and personal growth.
