Unbroken Journey

Project No. 2: Entry-Path-Goal**

Challenge:

In this exercise, you will create conceptual spaces by exploring the primary elements of architecture: line, plane, and volume. Get creative by developing a theme that will guide and inspire your design process.

Scale: ¼” = 1’-0”

THE CONCEPT:

A painting by Colombian artist Omar Rayo is the basis of my inspiration.  In this canvas, Rayo explores and optically decomposes a square. The resulting geometric labyrinth triggers a personal reflection about my development… as an artist, as an immigrant, and as a widow.

The primal square is my inner portal, and the following squares – cascading in a sequence – represent a path that, at first glance, appears to be broken.  The fractured course generates an initial feeling of uncertainty, but deeper exploration reveals continuity towards the goal.

In this final destination, a perfect cube embodies the three-dimensional evolution of the square, representing my own evolution as a widow, immigrant, artist, all coming together as a whole.**THE CONCEPT:**

My inspiration comes from a painting by Colombian artist Omar Rayo. In this artwork, Rayo explores and optically deconstructs a square. The resulting geometric labyrinth prompts a personal reflection on my development—both as an artist, an immigrant, and a woman.

The primal square serves as my inner portal, while the subsequent squares, cascading in sequence, represent a path that initially appears broken. This fractured course evokes a sense of uncertainty, but further exploration reveals a continuity leading toward a goal.

In this final destination, a perfect cube symbolizes the three-dimensional evolution of the square, reflecting my own journey as a woman

The perfect cube serves as a representation of perfection in geometry, embodying the journey through life and the search for that perfection. This quest reflects the various aspects of my identity as a woman, artist, and immigrant, showcasing how these elements intertwine in my artistic expression and personal growth., an immigrant, and an artist—ultimately coming together as a whole.Being an artist as a woman is not a straightforward journey; it demands a continual shift in perspective to adapt and cultivate an artistic practice. Understanding the essence of this practice involves ongoing exploration and effort. It's a constant endeavor to discover the perfect solution, as each design problem presents its own unique challenges that require creative ingenuity and resilience. This process embodies both the struggle and satisfaction inherent in artistic development.**THE CONCEPT:**

My inspiration is drawn from a powerful painting by Colombian artist Omar Rayo, who masterfully explores and optically deconstructs a square. This intricate geometric labyrinth compels me to reflect deeply on my development as an artist, immigrant, and woman.

The primal square serves as my inner portal, and the cascading sequence of subsequent squares represents a path that may initially seem broken. This fractured journey creates a sense of uncertainty, yet as I explore further, I uncover a clear continuity leading toward my goals.

At the culmination of this journey, a perfect cube symbolizes the three-dimensional evolution of the square, mirroring my own progress as a woman, artist, and immigrant. The perfect cube stands as a representation of geometric perfection, embodying my relentless pursuit of ideals in life. This quest highlights the complexity of my identity and demonstrates how these facets intertwine to enrich my artistic expression and personal growth.
